With so many different genres out there that I enjoy, it wasn’t easy deciding which one I wanted to write in. For the past year, I’d been writing romance novels under a different pen name.
The reason I was writing in that genre was simple: money. I’d heard that romance was easy to break into and that its readers were insatiable, always looking for new books and new authors.
Not surprisingly, my heart wasn’t in it. Before I decided to start writing romance, I’d never read a single romance novel in my entire life. Now I’m not judging anyone else, but they’re just not my thing. Porn? All day long. Romance novels? Not so much.
When I first heard about LitRPG as a genre, I was excited. I’ve always enjoyed reading fantasy and sci-fi novels and although I don’t play video games anymore, I used to love role-playing games. It only made sense that I’d enjoy this up-and-coming genre and I was right.
The first LitRPG book I read was Ready Player One. It seemed like a good introduction to the genre. I read it within a few days and really liked it. From there, I read another. And another. And then, I made the decision: I was going to stop writing romance and start writing LitRPG.
So that’s when I started plotting and writing Inside Out. Unlike with writing romance, I found that I really enjoyed writing LitRPG. That is, after all, why I got into writing in the first place – because I genuinely enjoy it.
And there you have it! That is, in a nutshell, how I got started writing LitRPG. I’m halfway through writing the second book in the Bloodfeast series and I’m enjoying myself quite a bit.
I plan on writing LitRPG for the foreseeable future. I think the Bloodfeast series is gonna end up being a trilogy. When I’m done with all three books, I’m planning on writing a longer stand-alone LitRPG novel.

Woohoo Another LitRPG author.. Can’t have enough… No way you would point to your romance novels??
Haha, nope. Sorry! My closest friends don’t even know my romance pen name. Writing romance was just a stepping stone to writing what I want to write – stuff like I’m writing now. I may actually sell the rights to all my romance manuscripts at some point.
