About Ellis Michaels

Ellis Michaels has never been content doing just one thing. Musician, author, comedian, and occasional “content creator” (a term that makes him cringe), he’s happiest when juggling too many creative projects at once. Based just south of Boston, Ellis blends punk-rooted grit with storytelling that shows up in everything he does – whether it’s a song, a novel, or a sketch poking fun at the music world.
🎵 Music
Ellis started young; classical piano lessons at seven, snare drum in the school marching band, and a beat-up acoustic guitar borrowed from a friend at thirteen. By fourteen, he was wielding a used electric guitar, skipping school to play until his fingers bled. That obsession landed him in his first band during high school, then in a nationally touring rock band signed to a New York label. After years of loud, fast chaos, he traded distortion pedals for an acoustic guitar, channeling his punk energy into a folk-punk, singer-songwriter style. His latest EP, Psychoacoustic, keeps the bite, wit, and grit – just with fewer blown speakers.
Ellis also offers music lessons both online and in person. If you’re interested in taking music lessons, you can learn more on the Services page.
📚 Writing
When he’s not in the studio, Ellis writes. Since 2014, he’s published multiple sci-fi and fantasy novels, including The Bloodfeast Trilogy, Ordinary Hero, Bad Unicorn, and the satirical fantasy novel, Snow. His fiction mixes humor, grit, imagination, and absurdity. Ellis has also written lots of nonfiction including a memoir (mentioned below under Life & Perspective) and hundreds of articles on psychology, philosophy, fitness, and more (some of which you can find in the Blog section).
🎭 Comedy
Under the name MusicBSharp, Ellis produces music-related comedy that blends insider knowledge with sharp humor. His videos have reached millions online, proving that you can roast the industry and still love it.
🩺 Life & Perspective
Ellis has spent most of his life living with Behcet’s disease, a rare autoimmune/autoinflammatory condition. In 2020, he published his memoir Finding Happiness Through Pain and Embarrassment – My Life With Behcet’s Disease, sharing his story with the same mix of honesty and humor that defines his creative work.

Before going full-time into creative work, he spent 15 years in the mental health field and put himself through college as an EMT.
🌊 Beyond the Work
When he’s not creating, Ellis might be reading, kayaking, hiking, at the beach, or spending time with his son. He’s a lifelong Red Sox fan, a believer in squeezing the most out of life, and a firm supporter of doing things your own way – even if it breaks the rules.
